Motivation and Goals

The goal of the Jornades de la Lingüística Catalan a Viena is to encourage the theoretical study of Catalan outside the area where it is spoken. An aim is furthermore to create and deepen connections between the Austrian linguistic community and the Universities of the Catalan speaking countries. Further objectives are to make relevant contributions to the theoretical discussion and thereby promote the role of Catalan in formal linguistics and to integrate new generations of young researchers to the community of linguists dedicated to the study of Catalan. In this way, the Jornades strengthen the visibility of Catalan in academia and in the linguistic discourse.
